Windows, DRM, and You; What you should know about the next version of Windows

Microsoft's next version of Windows is called Vista.  It will feature many new improvements but the one I'm interested in is called Protected Video Path - Output Protection Management (PVP-OPM).  This essentially forces a check to make sure that users have a monitor that supports HDCP.  See this article here ().  If it doesn't then it will play back your HD content in a degraded format if at all.  Not a huge deal but it will certainly drive up the costs associated with playing this stuff back since the cable alone could costs hundreds of dollars.

F_uck MS and F_ck HDCP because im not going to buy a godamn new monitor just to play blue ray content on P.C unless they give me one for free. Im not buying a brand new videocard either. I dont like my possesions to be controlled, if I buy it then I can do what ever the hell I want with it. Its my hard earned cash for god's sake. Like when the cable company gets mad if I god forbid (GASP!) ACTUALLY USE the full internet speed im paying for and then  caps it  down to 56k speeds -.- I'll be sticking to the PS3 for movie playback. Another thing is that I dont think there's anything wrong with recording video drm free.  I work alot and have no time to spend my entire day staring at the t.v. I want to record my shows and watch them when i have time and have the freedom to put them on any device, disk medium or computer that I want in case my p.c crashes or I want to go see it at a relitive or friend's house. These companies are rich and dont think about the lower middle class consumer. Watching a HD blue ray film on p.c should not be a luxury only available to those who can afford to buy a brand new video card, OS and monitor. Rich Greedy Companies should not be allowed to control media you pay your hard earned cash for because then they get a monopoly over a standard and start jacking up the prices like they did with I tunes. I tunes is a monopoly by no means but its the most widely used legal download service. Also if album sales are down its probably because 1. Most of today's music is sh!tty 2.Unlike CD's, mp3 files dont get scratched and mess up  3. The economy is fuc_kd and cost of living is rising 4. Many people are turned down by the RIAA and MPAA's treating innocent customers like criminals (all technologies have their legit and illegal uses). I know I have a weak argument but its cuz its 12 am and im sleepy (having a hard time getting my thoughts 2gether). Last but but least: Fuc|< the FCC. I watch what ever the hell I like and listen to what ever the hell I like. Im a godamn tax paying, law biding and bill paying adult and dont need to be told what i can and cant listen to. If you dont like it change the friggin channel or change the station and stop your bitchin. The same goes for the folks getting a titty attack from seeing a nipple on t.v.

Jay -
You should turn all of that energy into writing letters to your States Rep. and Senator.  You can find out how to contact them here: http://www.us.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml.  It sounds like you have a lot of passion about this stuff and I would encourage you to ustilize it in a constructive way.
