Ok...seriously, Linux needs DRM like I need a hole in my head. The people I know who run Linux run it to get away from all the crap built into Windows. They run it because they don't want to spend $400 on an OS per machine. They run it because they are free to tinker with it. They run it...well, you get the point.
The more people, manufacturers, developers, designers, architects, etc. buy into DRM the better. Why waste your time trying to convince stupid consumers that crippling their hardware and software is a good thing when all you have to do is convince manufacturers that they need DRM in all of their products. Why do manufacturers listen to this crap?
Jeff Ayars, a vice-president at Real Networks, said that "The consequences of Linux not supporting DRM would be that fixed-purpose consumer electronics and Windows PC's would be the sole entertainment platforms available." He continued "Linux would be further relegated to use in servers and business computers, since it would not be providing the multimedia technologies demanded by consumers."
Georg Greve, the president of the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE), disagreed by saying "So fortunately it is up to the consumer to decide what the consumer market wants. And its answer is clear: It does not want DRM!" he said. "The sooner we bury the foolish notion of putting each and every use of a computer under control of the media industry, the sooner we can start looking for real alternatives."
Please Linux world...please don't do it!!
